The Hillsboro Rec District will hold a public forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday inside the Hillsboro Community Center on Main Avenue.

Members of the Rec District board agreed earlier this month to ask voters for a property tax increase of up to six mills to pay for the city’s summer rec programs.

City Commissioner Levi Reese told board members Jan. 8 that the district finished 2019 nearly $4,600 in the red even after a $10,000 contribution from the city of Hillsboro.

Reese said the added mills would help offset those deficits and allow the district to continue to offer popular summer programs such as Babe Ruth, Little League and T-ball.

The Rec District also offers pickleball for adults as well as classes ranging from dance to photography.

Board members have been gathering signatures to place the mill levy vote on the June 9 ballot.
