Historical Society celebrating Bloomfield School’s centennial

At 100 years old, the Bloomfield No. 1 School isn’t showing its age. In fact, the building looks nearly identical to when it was built.
To celebrate a century of life, the Traill County Historical Society is offering tours by appointment of the old schoolhouse, built in 1920 and currently located in Heritage Park at the intersection of Fifth Street West and Second Avenue South in Hillsboro.
For some, the iconic one-room school may be a passing thought on a drive through town.
For others, the building represents a glimpse of a storied past in Traill County, full of rich family history.
“To me, this school has always had a special place in my heart,” said John Wright, a Traill County Historical Society board member. “It’s such a visual reminder for people.
“You can tell people about it, but unless they can see it and experience it firsthand, it’s difficult to wrap your mind around what life was like back then.”
