Plenty on tap for the ho-ho-holidays

Residents in Traill County will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate Christmas at a series of holiday events coming up in December.

Holiday-themed festivities on the December docket include:

  • The Blue Christmas Veterans Remembrance Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. The service is held in remembrance of veterans and in support of their families and friends.   • Hillsboro High School’s Christmas concert will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5 in the high school gym.
  • Central Valley School’s junior high and high school winter concert has been scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5.
  • Hatton Eielson School’s elementary winter concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5.
  • The Mayville State University Music Department will present its Madrigal Feast Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7. The event will feature entertainment by the Mayville State Music Department Chattingsworth Chorale, Sommerset Singers and Wellington Winds. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Mayville State’s Campus Center Foyer followed by dinner at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Luckasen Room. Tickets are $40.   • A Community Christmas in Hatton celebration is set from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Hatton Centennial Community Center. The event will kick off with the Hatton Learning Center Christmas program at 11:30 a.m. Other events include a tree-lighting ceremony and tour of lights around town. Lunch and a bake sale also will be available, with proceeds going toward the Hatton Learning Center.
  • A holiday open house is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center on the campus of Mayville State University. The Mayville State Alumni Association board of directors will host a morning of activities for all ages. Mayville State graduate and artist Doug Anderson of Cavalier, N.D., will teach children to draw Santa. Other activities include ornament-making, story-telling and music.   • A Christmas open house will be held at Hatton-Eielson Museum Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. each day.
  • The Hillsboro Business Association’s annual Christmas carnival will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Hillsboro city armory. Events planned include bounce houses, kids crafts and a visit from Santa starting at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will available for purchase from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Youth Group. Admission is $1 or a donation to the local food pantry.
  • United Valley Parish will host its ninth annual Christmas in the Barn at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at Jeremy and Dawn Paulsrud’s barn in rural Hillsboro at 17379 6th St. S.E. along County Road 2.
  • A Festival of Song will be held at Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
  • Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will host its annual Community Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
  • Hatton Eielson School’s junior high and high school winter concert is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9.
  • Hillsboro Elementary School’s annual Christmas concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Hillsboro Events Center.
  • Central Valley School’s elementary winter concert has been scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
  • MayPort Winterfest 2019 will be held Dec. 12-15. Scheduled events include cookie sampling, children’s story hour, candlelight shopping, lefse making, downtown hayrides and visits with Santa. The Friday, Dec. 13 parade of lights at 7 p.m. will be followed by fireworks at Mayville State 7:15. Activities planned Saturday, Dec. 14 include a flea market, WinterFest Bazaar at the Mayville armory from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., family bingo and a fire department dinner fundraiser, with a tour of homes Sunday, Dec. 15.
  • Reynolds Community Betterment will host its annual Christmas party at Reynolds City Hall on Saturday, Dec. 14. The gathering will include visits with Santa Claus and photos starting at 2 p.m. followed by wagon rides around town from 4 to 7 p.m. Wine and cheese will be served from 5 to 7. Games, activities, cookie decorating, hot chocolate and popcorn will run from 2 to 7.
  • MayPort-CG High School will hold its winter concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16.
  • MayPort-CG’s elementary winter concert performances for grades K-2 will be held at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. Performances for students in grades 3-5 will be held at the same times Thursday, Dec. 19.
  • Holmes United Methodist Church’s live nativity pageant will be held at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Dwight and Sara Ollman horse arena at 221 22nd St. N.E., Reynolds. The nativity scene features a reading of the Christmas story, singing angels and characters acting out the Christmas narrative. Each performance lasts 15 minutes.
