Larry Mueller has started offering a class for teens and adults who don’t have their heads in the clouds but hope to get them there.

The president of the Hillsboro Municipal Airport Authority will begin offering ground school classes for private pilot licenses starting in January in Hillsboro.

“I started out as a teacher and this is one way to fulfill my two passions: teaching and flying,” Mueller said.

The ground school class will offer once-a-week evening sessions from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday nights from Jan. 7 through the end of March.

The sessions, which cost $350, will introduce the ins and outs of becoming a pilot, a profession that has seen a growing shortage the past 30 years.
