Students in the Hillsboro and Northern Cass school districts may be able to enroll this fall in a John Deere-sponsored pilot program to receive hands-on technical training in school.

The neighboring school districts and Moorhead Area Public Schools in Moorhead, Minn., would be the first in the area to take part in John Deere University, according to Paula Suda, superintendent of Hillsboro Public Schools.

The service technician intern program would cater to students interested in entering the workforce right out of high school and rely on Valley Plains Equipment sites like the one in Hillsboro.

“This (program) would allow kids to start the certification process and get some classes toward their future jobs while still in school,” Suda told the Hillsboro School Board on Monday.
