The Hillsboro Dollars for Scholars chapter has awarded $106,800 in scholarships to Hillsboro High School seniors headed for college.

Jim Murphy, president of the local Dollars for Scholars chapter, announced the record-setting payout Sunday during Hillsboro’s graduation ceremony.

After offering one $200 scholarship in 1987, the state’s largest Dollars for Scholars chapter doled out 35 scholarships averaging $3,040 per student this spring.

“Every graduate who applied received some scholarship money,” Murphy told graduates and their parents gathered inside the Hillsboro Events Center.

“None of this would have been possible without the generosity and vision of donors.”

Now in its 33rd year, the scholarship foundation has seen its endowment fund flourish the past decade.
