Backpack program aims to provide food for local kids

Hillsboro children in need will get a helping hand this school year – at least, that is the hope of a group of concerned citizens.
Brenda Stallman, executive director of Traill District Health Unit, is organizing a Backpack Program, which will provide nutritious food for local students from households without consistent access to adequate food.
“I was approached about getting it started through the Great Plains Food Bank,” she said. “I’ve been doing the groundwork and getting people together to talk about feasibility.
“We’re hoping to get it going right away,” Stallman added.
