The Hillsboro Recreation District continued to report strong participation in its summer recreation programs despite a number of organizational changes over the past year.

More than 140 area kids were part of the district’s T-ball, Little League baseball and fast-pitch softball teams while another 11 took golf lessons hosted by the Hillsboro organization.

In a tumultuous year, which saw the end of the district’s funding through a 20-year property tax levy of 2.5 mills, recreation district Chairman Levi Reese, who represents the Hillsboro City Commission, said the district still had solid participation in its sports offerings for the summer.

“I want to thank everyone for putting up with the changes and headaches,” Reese said. “We’re trying to get everything figured out and hopefully next year it’ll be easier.”
